Dear Friends,
Solar Eclipse on 22 July 2009 was an event that happens once a century. Indraneel Sen of Delhi has highlighted this phenomenon in his own way. Please have a look. -----Dr. Pankaj Sharma
Delhites were very much excited to view the celestial phenomenon of the 21st century i.e the longest ever solar eclipse. Along with other places in the capital, a large number of crowds gathered at Nehru Planetarium from early morning onwards. From students to elders, the interest was same in all sections of the people. As per Mr O.P. Gupta, Sr Planetarium Engineer, visibility from Delhi was 85%. During the tenure of the eclipse, clouds gathered for a while but ultimately it got cleared off putting a sigh of relief to the large number of viewers. The ideal viewing time here at Delhi was from 6.26 AM - 7.24 AM. At 6.26 A.M it was at its maximum. A total of 3,500 solar goggles were being sold from here for viewing this extra ordinary phenomenon. Arrangements of Telescopes, projections were made for the viewers. Some of the viewers also concentrated on this phenomenon by viewing through the X ray films. At the end of this extravaganza, every one left with beautiful memories which will be there savings till the end of their life as no one knows who will again be lucky to view in 2132 if he or she gets a rebirth as a human being.
