CELEBRATIONS OF THE QUEERS IN DELHI

Friends,

An important event, i.e. Queer Pride Parade, took place in the capital city of India on 27th November-2011. Mr. Indraneel Sen of Delhi is before us with a feature on this event.

--Dr. Pankaj Sharma

“Delhi witnessed the 4th colorful queer (odd or unusual) pride parade on 27thNovember. It started from Barakhamba crossing around 4.00 P.M and concluded at Jantar Mantar during the evening time. A good amount of common people gathered to witness this unique parade. The giant rainbow flag followed by the enjoyment of the queers marked a solid base for this purpose. Yes that was an enjoyable time for the gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual, LGBTI and so on. They came on the Delhi streets to reclaim their pride and dignity. With their collective small and bigger victories in their bag they were demanding the rights of sexually marginalized people on a global scenario. They affirmed their diverse expression and gave a somehow distress call for laying attention on their everyday struggle for respect and dignity. Different types of placards displaying diverse messages were visible during this rally. Overseas participants were also present to strengthen the boldness of the parade. To conclude, they marched together to make their voices heard even louder than before and splashed the colors of their lives with full rainbow spectrum of their diversity on the streets of Delhi.”
