Bheraghat: A Gorgeous Place of Madhya Pradesh
Text and Photographs: Dr. Pankaj Sharma
Bheraghat is at a distance of about 25 Kilometres from Jabalpur city and has a significant position on the tourism - map of India. It is a small village that is located on the banks of River Narmada. This place is well-known for its marble rocks which cover Narmada on both the sides. In fact the stones of Bheraghat are lime stones. People misconstrue them and call them marble rocks. The Narmada is more than 500 ft. deep at some places here. Bheraghat is famous for Dhuandhar Fall all over the world. River Narmada falls into its gorge so speedily that little water droplets rise above intensively and make a feel of smoke (or Dhuan, the Hindi word for smoke). Hence this fall is known as Dhuandhar.
Chausatyogini temple is an accepted temple at Bheraghat. This ancient temple is named after 64 yoginis. Beautiful stone figures of various deities in this temple are fine examples of ancient art.
Another attractive spot of this region is Panchwati Ghat. One can have the joy of boating here. The boats carry us into the lovely gorge of Narmada.
